MUSIC MONDAYS! Feat. BEATS ANTIQUE & PHOTEK

I'm in desperate need of new forms of inspiration these days.... so, why not turn to music!  Don't get me wrong, I am still obsessed with fashion/menswear and love doing it daily...but I need music!  Music is always blasting in my office, so why not bring more of it to the blog?  So, starting today... definitely bringing back "Music Mondays".

Before the holidays, I was fortunate enough to be sent two CDs from Confluence and have been so busy that I'm just getting around to them.

I.  BEATS ANTIQUE - CONTRAPTION V. II

Beats Antique is Oakland based American experimental world fusion and electronic music group.  A bit gypsy mixed with heavy tribal dance influence, I will have to say I'm sorta loving it.  I can already imagine a highly decorative and ornate collection walking down the runway when I listen to it - transporting the audience to a far away estranged land (how very galliano-esque!)  My favorite song from the Contraption V. II album is Crush feat. Brazz Menazeri perhaps because I envision it as a runway song with the progression of looks as the song evolves.  Hear/see the youtube video below:

II. PHOTEK KU:PALM

PHOTEK's new album KU:PALM is very cinematic with it's drum & bass roots.  I've not paid that much attention to PHOTEK until I heard his Daft Punk remix on the Tron soundtrack (GRAMMY nominated!) and most recently Lana Del Rey's RIDE.  So, it was a pleasant surprise to notice that this was one of the two CDs sent to me.  I would say my favorite song is This Love feat. Ray La Montagne.  See/Hear the video below:

Green Day for John Varvatos Spring / Summer 2012 Campaign + Video

Green Day steps into the spot light for John Varvatos Spring / Summer 2012 campaign.  Varvatos has always used iconic musicians (Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Dave Matthrews, The Roots, etc) to front their collections and their rock n' roll lifestyle.  Green Day definitely has been influential in my upbringing and my teenage angsts.  A pretty great combo I must say.

Gant Rugger Fall Video - Storytelling

For Fall/Winter 2011, Gant Rugger released this wonderful video.  Featuring a soundtrack by The Rassle, the film features the best looks from the Gant Rugger collection.  I am a bit obsessed with Gant these days.  It's definitely a fun watch and makes me look forward to layering up for fall!

Florence + the Machine "DOG DAYS ARE OVER" video

Last night, I was able to see Florence + The Machine at the Greek Theatre here in LA.  I had amazing seats , VIP passes, and pit access.  Overall, it was an extremely memorable nite and Florence was spectacular live.  I think her voice is absolutely haunting and the theatricality of her performance was top notch.

Lady Gaga: Born This Way Official Video

Whether you are a "little monster", were a "little monster", or just want her to get in her Grammy egg/pod creation and go be a little monster somewhere else, you have to admit that Lady Gaga has definitely made a huge impact on pop culture.  Released today, her official video for Born This Way written by Gaga and directed by Nick Knight, is high fashion, high art and high concept - birthing a new race?!  Also, did I mention it has a shimmering unicorn?

Radiohead: Lotus Flower

Lotus Flower is the newest single off of Radiohead's eighth and newest album, The King of Limbs.  An amazing song of staccato electronic elements and spectral synths, the video features a spastic Thom Yorke dancing in black and white.  Definitely an instant favorite...

Teen Hearts - Maybe Someday

Friend and co-worker Kelly Scott Orr's band Teen Hearts just released a new song called Maybe Someday and here's the newly released video!

Recently ranked #1 unsigned artist on Myspace music and overall amazing pop/electronica/rock band, Kelly Scott Orr writes all the lyrics and music.  In fact, this video was even shot in his own house.  Amazing!

And hey, You gotta love a song that could fit both "Ghostbuster T-Shirt" and "Vintage Couture" into the same chorus.

John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2011 Campaign Stars Dave Matthews

Musician Dave Matthews (of the Dave Matthews Band) stars in John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2011 campaign. We all know that John Varvatos is all about rock n roll and we think that Dave is a great choice for the ONE MAN BAND concept. Shot by Danny Clinch, the imagery is reminiscent of late 1800's and early 1900's street performers.
