James Long for TOPMAN Fall / Winter 2012 Knitwear Collection

Topman enlists London based designer James Long (knitwear extraordinaire) for a Fall/Winter 2012 Knitwear capsule.  Inspired by such sweater wearing icons such as members of the Sex Pistols, the Base City Rollers and of course Bobby Gillespie and Keith Richards, elements like aran, dots, stripes, and hints of lurex define the 8 piece collection.

H&M X Maison Martin Margiela Launch Event

Events like this makes me want to move to NY so bad!  For the H&M x Maison Martin Margiela launch, a huge party was thrown in an abandoned building in downtown.  Never one to follow convention, the collection was shown off by the internationally renowned dance company Rosas from Brussels through beautiful dance compositions and artists like Daniel Arsham and Noemi Goudal interpreted the design house's ideas.

In-store launch date is soon!!!  Will you be waiting in line?!

1st Look at H&M X Maison Martin Margiela Fall / Winter 2012 Collection

Here's a first look at the H&M X Maison Martin Margiela Fall / Winter 2012 Collaboration collection.  MMM dug into the archives as inspiration for the collab and it definitely has the quirky artisanal quality for which MMM is known.  However, I am a bit underwhelmed by the looks...as a whole.

First Look at Aldo Rise X Patrik Ervell Collaboration Video

Did you know that Aldo shoes had a high(er) end designer collaboration series called ALDO RISE?!   Neither did I!  Well, apparently, ALDO Rise has already done project with JW Anderson, Faster by Mark Fast, Preen, and even Libertine (how I missed it....one would never know!).  For Fall/Winter 2012, Aldo teams up with Patrik Ervell for capsule that I'm dying to see in person.  

From the release:

"ALDO RISE is excited to welcome New York-based award winning designer, Patrik Ervell, to its roster of world-class designers. Noted for his unconventional use of innovation and unusual materials such as vulcanized rubber, vintage parachutes, horsehair, and gold foil, Ervell translates his unique vision through signature combinations and innovation.

For Fall/Winter 2012 Patrik Ervell collaborated with ALDO RISE and direction M Blash to create a video reminiscent of sci-fi classics like Chris Marker's "La Jetee" and Ridley Scott's "Bladerunner."

"The Fall/Winter 12 collection had to do with uniforms that had a kind of police academy feeling," says Ervell.  "I think the video has a suggestion of that kind of a setting.  An academy of sorts but in an alternative world or possibly a future world.  ALso, watching people fly around in my clothes was pretty amazing."

Topman Design Spring / Summer 2013 Menswear Runway

True to Topman fashion, Topman Design Spring / Summer 2013 menswear runway had something for everybody.  Inspired by New York tailoring of the 80's mixed with the casual styling of the west coast skater/sufer, the collection was a colorful mix of tailored and casual elements.  Lots of neon and florals in many of the looks and lots of design updates to ideas of color blocking and even T-shirt silhouettes.  All over prints still a hugely important trend.

Favorite design details of mine were the matching set concepts and the laser cut polka dots on the more tailored outerwear pieces.  Yes, please to both!

Overall, an extremely energetic and a very fun showing.
