BEAT POET just dropped their Fall/Winter 20111 menswear lookbook and campaign video. This is my first intro to BEAT POET and I have to say that I'm loving it. Also, I like their concept of presenting a collection as full season wardrobes of two halves -a collection will open with a SS range and conclude with a complementary FW installment.
Words from BEAT POET:
"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove…
Continuing on from the spring/summer component, the winter range is focused on distilling the modern men’s wardrobe to its essence. Many of the garments borrow from military traditions, a constant source of inpiration for menswear throughout history. Classics of the men’s wardrobe such as the Bronx Leather Jacket, the M-65 Parka, the Great Coat, the Duffle Coat, the Suit, and even the Belt are pared back and reconfigured into relevant new forms and fabrications.
As usual, there is the underlying tension between the structured and the unstructured, especially in terms of brutal elements and more restrained softer elements. Loose-knit pullovers add a raw and primitive edge to sleek wool/silk suits while the C-65 Parka extends its utilitarian military heritage by collapsing down to form a shoulder bag. The soft textures of greyscale tweeds and checks are set against shiny quilted sheep skin leather and a highlight of blue-grey that runs across the otherwise neutral palette."
