The Evolution of The Levi's® Trucker Jacket - Short Film

Not as iconic nor does it have the same heritage as the 501...the Levi's Trucker jacket has been getting a lot of attention from collaboration capsules as of late. From Opening Ceremony to Pendleton, and from Stussy & Neighborhood to Billy Reid, the Trucker jacket has been reinvented and retooled yet it still maintains the spirit and the essense of the original. In this short film, "The Evolution of The Levi's Trucker Jacket", Levi's shows us the origins of this classic piece and its evolution through culture and design throughout America and the world.

It's good to know your history.

From Levi's:

"First built out of heavy duty riveted denim in 1967. Later constructed from corduroy, leather and canvas. Lined with wool or sherpa for colder weather. Customized, cut-off, and worn-in by workers everywhere. The Levi's Trucker jacket endures. This year, Levi's collaborated with a selection of today's pioneering brands and designers to explore the iconic garment, building it in new fabrications, adding functional elements and tweaking the details. All jackets have been designed and hand built by craftsman in the USA. Although many purists would argue that the Trucker is best in the traditional rigid denim, then worn in over decades of hard work, these special edition jackets prove that there are still many more places to go with the Trucker."

THE SOLOIST Spring / Summer 2011 Lookbook

When Number (N)ine, Japanese cult favorite went away after Fall 2009, my friends and I were extremely saddened by the news. Number (N)ine WAS Japanese avante garde menswear at its best.

Takahiro Miyashita, the designer behind the line, rumored to have some disease (not validated), is now back with his latest line- The Soloist. I personally think the time off was definitely good for him as this Spring / Summer 2011 is pretty amazing.

Whereas his previous line was about rock n' roll and music influences, The Soloist represents a much more mature and subdued Takahiro Miyashita. The colors and cuts are quieter...but nonetheless still avante garde and couture-like. Amazing.

JM Ferrater Short Film for Tiger Magazine

Will Lewis and Denisa Dvorakova shot by JM Ferrater for Tiger Magazine. Not a big fan of fringe, but on Will, it looks great. Maybe if I stay in motion, it'll look on me too.

Oh yeah, and Denisa looks amazing. BTW.

Factotum Fall / Winter 2010 Lookbook

Japanese brand Factotum offers up a beautifully shot and seemingly very cold Fall/Winter 2010 lookbook. Known for it's workwear and military aesthetics, designer Koji Udo and Factotum has been on my radar for quite sometime now. In fact, I have had my eyes on their chunky oversized sweaters (but SLIM cut) and several of their jackets.

Perhaps this entire lookbook should be categorized as "shopping list"...I wish.

Enjoy the lookbook!

Shopping List: Sneakersnstuff X Converse "Lovikka" Chuck Taylor All-Star

Here's another one to add to my chucks collections. Converse X Sneakersnstuff. Gets me in the knitting mood!

From Hypebeast:

"Scandinavian sneaker retailer Sneakersnstuff recently joined forces with Converse to rework their ubiquitous Chuck Taylor All Star model. The Swedish store has designed a unique upper created from premium wool, is decorated with multi-colored embroidery for branding. Further detailed with heel tassels, the shoe is finished with a complementing, primary color-striped midsole. The sneakers are available from SNS on December 3."

And We Are Back! Follow me!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday! Above picture is Takashi Murakami in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade...pretty creepy!

But the picture of the Kiki & Kai Kai balloons below is totally adorable.

Random Observation:

Was it just me...or did shoppers this past weekend seemed crazed to spend money? As if, if they didn't spend their money on Friday, it was the last chance ever. Also, no parking at 5am according to some stories and lines from the night before in freezing weather? Seriously?

Furthermore, doesn't this holiday season seem like it's on steroids? I felt like the Christmas decorations went up as soon as the Halloween decorations came down. INSANITY!

ANYHOO, ON ANOTHER SIDE NOTE, SANITY WOULD BE TO FOLLOW ME:

SEE BELOW FOR HOW.

I'M ALWAYS UP FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS!!

CONVERSE SoHo Store Opening! - Converse's First Specialty Store in NYC.

Converse opens its specialty retail store in SoHo! I'm a huge collector of Chucks and this sounds like a collector's haven. Carrying exclusive collections like John Varvatos for Converse, Star Chevron, and Jack Purcell, this store is a must stop! And, the store itself looks amazing. Rock on!

New York for New Years anyone?!

@ 560 Broadway, New York

From Converse:
"The store’s design features speak directly to Converse’s distinct sport and rock ‘n roll heritage. Converse worked with New York based architecture firm Jennifer Carpenter Architect to preserve as much of the original details of the 110 year old building as possible. The single floor retail space is approximately 7,000 square feet using several reclaimed and natural elements to create a vintage inspired feel. From old gymnasium bleachers and recycled wood flooring to re-used Brooklyn factory parts and iconic New York City imagery, all in-store elements blend to create authentic design details.
Taking center stage of the space and the first of its kind is a 40-foot wall featuring an expansive Chuck Taylor All Star footwear collection. White tiled walls throughout the space pay homage to the New York City subway, creating a unique backdrop for the new denim collection, which features 24 styles for women and men.
Another key feature of the New York City store experience will be Converse’s unique customization capabilities for both apparel and footwear available in-store. Converse customization will allow customers to select exclusive product including shoes, t-shirts and bags, along with graphics and colors, to create their very own masterpiece of personal expression. Customization Maestros will be on hand to provide one-on-one assistance with two state-of-the-art printers that will offer over 200 graphic options that will be updated monthly, with plans of inclusion of limited edition selections from collaborations with well-known artists. Customers will be able to create and leave the store with their creations same day with the final product presented in its own special package, taking customization to new heights touching an individual’s inner artist.
The grand opening of the Converse SoHo store will be on Friday, November 26, 2010, opening at 8 am. The store’s normal operating hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 8 pm, and Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm."
